The Master in Banking, Capital Markets & Financial Technology is developed to equip participants with the technical skills required to deepen their expertise in capital markets.

The program is offered on a full-time basis and consists of 3 terms of academic courses and a professional experience. The curriculum is developed around core courses within the field of banking and capital markets and its latest developments that build a set of skills to best prepare students’ transition into a successful and meaningful career in this challenging and dynamic industry.

This course aims at understanding how big data can be used in Finance and how it is changing the financial sector, and undertaking predictive estimations using financial data.

Essentials of Financial Mathematics
This course aims at providing students with the tools that support sustainable financial decision-making by individuals and organizations.

Machine Learning
The objective of this course is to provide the fundamentals of machine learning methods with various financial applications including empirical asset pricing, credit risk modelling, return prediction, default prediction, among others.

Quantitative Financial Analysis with R
This course covers empirical quantitative financial analysis in terms of specifying, estimating and interpreting the output of econometric models with the use of Refinitiv Workspace and Bloomberg to retrieve and manipulate data.

This course is an introduction to Python programming covering the basics of the Python syntax and a series of financial applications with a special focus on specific packages.

Banking and Financial Intermediaries
This course provides a deep understanding of the structure and the evolution of the banking industry, the role of banks in the financial system and in the economy, the quality of banks’ financial statements, the current issues related to this industry, and the front and back office operations of a bank, and to develop analytical skills related to asset and liability management in a banking operation.

Banking Simulation
Develop decision-making skills required for managers with varying financial responsibilities in a financial company. Students are managers of a bank and should take investment decisions to well anticipate and manage the risks associated to a financial institution and end up with the most profitable business for shareholders.

Corporate and Investment Banking

Corporate Financial Transactions
At the end of the course, students should be able to define, describe and discuss the best practices in equity and debt financing processes, and apply this knowledge to concrete corporate transactions and public offerings to raise long term capital. Student will be able to investigate the M&A phenomena around the world based on key elements of these operations to undergo an M&A or takeover decision.

Private Equity and Venture Capital
At the end of the course, students will understand the best practices employed in the Private Equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) industries, growth equity and buyouts in the context of the broader economy. Students will understand the Fintech market segmentation, challenges, business models, perspectives for the incumbents and the Finance industry and issues related to their funding process.

The course covers the regulation of financial institutions and markets and its implementation, the different roles and activities of compliance, and opportunities and challenges of financial regulation and compliance.

Reporting for Financial Instruments
At the end of the course students will be able to construct expert knowledge from cutting-edge information on reporting for financial instruments and employ state of the art techniques pertaining to reporting for financial instruments.

Business Ethics and Managerial Behavior
This course aims at providing students with an understanding of the ethical decision-making process to assess ethical decisions and dilemmas faced by businesses, relevant tools to solve them, and act within their organisation to drive value-creation using sustainability and ethics.

Sustainable Finance
This course aims at providing students with an understanding of the implications of sustainability challenges on financial markets and how financial risks posed by Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing can be responded.

Capital Markets
This course provides a deeper understanding of the investment environment, asset classes and financial instruments, how they are traded and their historical risk and return relations, and how macroeconomic and industry analyses can be used to read markets.

Introduction to Portfolio Analysis
The objective of the course is to understand how markets value securities and investors face risk and return decisions, apply modern portfolio theory to the construction of an efficient portfolio, asset allocation and risk management techniques, and evaluate portfolio performance.

The Trading Desk: Key Tools to Trade in Global Markets
The course is designed to give the students an understanding of how a trading desk works inside a financial institution, the different roles involved in different transactions, how every position has to be funded and the implications of the cost of funding, and how traders can use the Bloomberg terminal to carry out their day-to-day operations.

International Finance
This course aims to provide students with skills to properly handle FX operations in a global environment by having a robust knowledge of FX markets, international monetary arrangements, foreign exchange rates parities, determinants of exchange rates, FX derivatives, as well as FX risk management.

Risk Analysis and Management
At the end of the course, students will be able to understand how financial risk management is an integral factor to the sustainability of any business and be able to identify, measure, evaluate, act upon, and communicate financial vulnerabilities.

Derivative Securities
The goal of this course is to provide a complete overview of the different types of contracts and their use in asset management, hedge funds, trading desk, and corporates along with the whole operational chain from client needs to the trading desk and how risks can be hedged in the market.

Equity Capital Markets (ECM)

Equity Analysis
This course introduces tools to perform the valuation of a company with a focus on being able to critically describe the characteristics of standard valuation techniques, estimating the cost of the various sources of financing used by a firm and assessing the sensitivity of value estimates to model assumptions.

Equity Portfolio Management
This course provides students with the tools to construct and implement passive and equity portfolios and factor/style indexes, evaluate portfolio performance, and report detailed portfolio information and regular commentaries in the portfolio factsheets.

Debt Capital Markets (DCM)

Fixed Income Securities
At the end of the course students will be able to discuss all the key features of a fixed-income security, understand the underlying principles of bond valuation, value key debt instruments and analyse the market value of bonds, identify and measure the risks associated with investing in bonds, and understand yield spreads, spot rates and forward rates appropriately.

Fixed Income Portfolio Management
At the end of this course students will be able to construct, manage and evaluate the performance of a portfolio of fixed-income securities.

Business Consultancy in a Digital Environment*

The course is designed to immerse students into the daily life of business consultants working for an ERP implementation company. Through interactive lectures, group assignments, and the intervention of four expert professionals, this course confronts students with the diverse expectations, tasks, and challenges functional consultants need to tackle. Combining theoretical concepts with hands-on exercises on a hypothetical business case, participants are expected to acquire knowledge on and experience with ERP deliverables and domains (i.e., Microsoft Dynamics 365), workflow design for top-level business processes (i.e.., Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash), project management activities, and functional consulting analysis tools (e.g., XMind, Bizagi).

Leading for Creativity and Design Thinking*

Creativity is one of the critical components of an organization’s ability to survive and thrive in today’s competitive and dynamic markets. This course will provide participants with a rich understanding of how creativity can be facilitated and managed in a work setting. They will acquire knowledge regarding various theoretical conceptualizations (i.e., how do you define creativity), antecedents (i.e., what makes you and others more creative) and outcomes (i.e., what is the impact) of creativity as well as knowledge on design thinking techniques and tools to lead teams in the creative journey.
How do creative ideas happen? How can we foster our creativity and the creativity of those around us? What are the paths of creative development of individuals who are successful in their creative endeavours? What are the implications for fostering and managing creativity in the workplace? What are the obstacles to creativity? What is the nature of creativity in teams and organizations? These are some of the questions we will address. During the course, a variety of teaching and learning techniques will be used to enable participants to think critically and imaginatively about various perspectives of creativity. To realize the goal of a shared learning experience between participants and the instructor, the course is aimed at integrating real challenges and practical experiences of creativity, projects, presentations, experiential exercises, and critical reflection on the various course materials.

Entrepreneurship and New Business Development

This course provides participants with a profound understanding on entrepreneurship, new business development, and business plan writing. Through lectures, testimonials, field-work, and group assignments, participants are confronted with the how, where, when, whom, and why of starting and developing new business activities. As part of an international and multicultural team, participants are invited to work on an operational business plan aimed at either the creation of a new venture (NVC-track) or the acceleration of new business for an already established SME (NBD-track). This course’s ambitions thus go beyond providing theoretical insights. Hands-on experience is gained through out-of-class field work covering all steps of the entrepreneurial decision-making process (e.g., idea generation, feasibility analysis, industry study, market analysis, marketing plan, production plan, product development, and financial statements). In doing so, participants accumulate entrepreneurial knowledge and behaviours that support innovative solutions and new value development.

Under this educational partnership, our courses embed the contents of CISI’s International Introduction to Securities and Investment and our students are given the opportunity to take the corresponding Level 3 qualification.

INTERNSHIP

During their internship, students are able to combine theories of management with hands-on experience and apply the cross-cultural skills they have developed at IÉSEG.

Assistant Portfolio Manager, Credit Risk Trainee, Depositary Analyst, Equity Derivatives Analyst, Financial Risk Manager, Junior Auditor or Structuring Analyst for example: the internship opportunities offered by the program at the end of the curriculum are multiple.

Some companies which hire our interns: Amundi Asset Management, Société Générale Corporate and Investment Banking, Natixis, J.P. Morgan, Quilvest Asset Management, FXCM, Langham Hall, Alter Domus, European Stability Mechanism, EY/PWC, etc.

The internship can be undertaken in France or abroad. Most students have done their internships in France, in Europe, in Asia or in South America for example.

Our 2 Financial Markets Labs, located on the Lille campus, provide students with a unique experience. The lab plays a key role in the pedagogy of our program and they integrate the most recent teaching innovations to enhance your learning experience.
