Impact investors are a unique subset of hybrid organizations, who have been receiving surging attention as an effective financing means. The particular multilevelstructure of impact investors provides an intriguing empirical context to study social-financial tensions, which has been underexplored in the extant corpus of the literature. Employing a qualitative approach, the study draws on findings from 15 impact investors in Europe. The current research frames three main mechanisms for mission management in impact investors, namely pre-emptive strategy mechanisms, governing mechanisms, and contracting mechanisms.
