On June 20, I\u00c9SEG reached the top of the podium twice in the 12th edition of the “Tous HanSc\u00e8ne” competition<\/a>, a major video contest open to all students in higher education, with the aim of changing the way people look at disability.
Andr\u00e9a ARCAMONE, Djany BELINGA, Mathilde CADO and Amicie WOLFF, students in the Master cycle of the Grande \u00c9cole program<\/a>, won the Audience Prize for their film “As du Volant”, while I\u00c9SEG, represented by Val\u00e9rie HERBERT-LECLERCQ, the school’s Disability Officer, won the 1st Prize for School Mobilization.
A few days after the ceremony, they share their pride and emotion with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st Prize for School Commitment: “an incredible experience from start to finish”.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Val\u00e9rie HERBERT-LECLERCQ explains: “In September 2023, as part of my role as Disability Representative, I launched, with Coline BRIQUET (Head of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion at the School) an elective for students in the Master cycle of the Grande \u00c9cole Program. This elective meets three major pedagogical objectives: firstly, to understand the issues of diversity, equality and inclusion, and in particular the inequalities and discrimination that can exist on the basis of disability, sex, gender, social and economic origin\u2026 Secondly, to carry out effective awareness-raising and prevention actions (and this is where the video project for the “Tous HanSc\u00e8ne” competition comes in). And finally, to carry out a reflective observation and analysis of the involvement in these various projects.<\/p>\n\n\n

Tous HanSc\u00e8ne<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

This competition is particularly close to my heart, as it reveals real talent, enthusiasm and commitment to the subject. As part of the “Tous HanSc\u00e8ne” competition, the students had to produce a 2-to-3-minute video on the theme of disability. I gave them all the support they needed, introducing them to the competition and its rules, showing them the winning videos from previous years and pointing out the mistakes to avoid. Finally, I followed them on a daily basis throughout the creation of their videos. Once the videos had been published on the competition website, the Communications Department and I launched a campaign to call for votes in order to reach as many students and teams as possible, and to mobilize them as much as possible. Thanks not only to the quality of the two videos, but also to everyone’s commitment, I\u00c9SEG won the 1st School Mobilization Prize.
This prize is endowed with \u20ac2,000, which will enable us to finance the implementation of a disability project during the next academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right from the start of this adventure, I was impressed by the open-mindedness and commitment of the students who took part in this elective. They took on this project with enthusiasm, and it’s this enthusiasm that makes them proud of their achievement. It was a beautiful, moving ceremony, and I was delighted to be able to experience it with Andr\u00e9a, Djany, Mathilde and Amicie. It motivates me all the more to launch new actions at I\u00c9SEG next year on these subjects of disability and diversity awareness.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audience Award for “As du Volant”: “We wanted to make a documentary without pathos”.
Andr\u00e9a ARCAMONE, Djany BELINGA, Mathilde CADO and Amicie WOLFF won the Audience Award for their video “As du Volant”. They all met during the “Engagement Etudiant Egalit\u00e9 et Inclusion” elective, even if they chose it for very different reasons. Andrea ARCAMONE had just returned from a gap year volunteering in Peru with the NGO. She met several exceptionally resilient women entrepreneurs, and decided to make a documentary (Palabras Peruanas) to pass on their words and give them the recognition they deserve. Marie-Amicie WOLFF was on an academic exchange in South Africa, and spent 2 months living in a small village as a volunteer. On her return to I\u00c9SEG, she had chosen the “Consulting” major and immediately chose this elective for its human dimension and the essential subjects it enabled her to tackle. Finally, Djany BELINGA had just arrived at I\u00c9SEG in August, as a parallel admission student. She immediately sensed that she would feel at home in this elective, and was attracted by its content, which promised new encounters off-campus and better integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At the start of the project, we did a few brainstorming and collective intelligence sessions, but we knew from the outset that we wanted to make a short film without pathos, focusing on two people with disabilities. We were fortunate to be able to contact Steve MATYJA, who has cystic fibrosis and is a top-level para-badminton athlete. He was very touched by our project, which was to make a film WITH disabled people, not ABOUT disabled people. He introduced us to Jeff, an athlete with agenesis of the hands and feet, and so we made this short film, during which viewers only see two athletes who play badminton very well, and it’s only at the end that we understand that they are disabled athletes, which makes their performance all the more impressive and admirable. So our aim was to put the athletes’ talent before their disability. That’s why we called our film “As du Volant”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had written a script to maintain a common thread throughout the video, while leaving room for spontaneity. The result was a dynamic video, rich in humanity and full of twists and turns! Steve was with us when we picked up our prize on stage. It was a very touching and emotional moment, which we were delighted to share together. Steve told us a lot about how proud he was of us, but in fact we’re all proud of what the six of us have achieved. It’s the kind of event that gives us hope and helps us move forward. We can see that when we put people at the heart of our actions, with heart and kindness, we amplify our impact.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can we take away from this adventure? A shared feeling of having contributed to changing the way people look at disability, and of having met some exceptional people\u2026 but also, for Andrea ARCAMONE: “a double reward, that of having done good for ourselves and for others”. For Marie-Amicie WOLFF, “it’s knowing how to communicate with people with disabilities, knowing how to talk about discrimination and harassment, because these are difficult subjects to tackle and we can be afraid of not using the right words, of offending or hurting people. But in fact, it’s not talking about it that’s even worse”. For Djany BELINGA, “what I’ve taken away from this elective is that diversity always gives us a plus in what we want to do. Knowing how to take everyone’s different points of view into account, without being guided by our own prejudices, is a real asset. It’s our shared wealth that has enabled us to reach this level and win this prize.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
