﻿{"id":162767,"date":"2024-09-11T19:10:50","date_gmt":"2024-09-11T17:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/?post_type=news&#038;p=162767"},"modified":"2024-09-12T15:45:50","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T13:45:50","slug":"be-mindful-ieseg-elective-course","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/news\/be-mindful-ieseg-elective-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Be Mindful@I\u00c9SEG: an elective course to cultivate wellness, meaning, and happiness at 20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>In September 2023, <\/em><strong><em>I\u00c9SEG launched a new elective course, &#8220;Be Mindful@I\u00c9SEG,&#8221; dedicated to student well-being. <\/em><\/strong><em>Designed for Bachelor&#8217;s students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/programs\/specialized-masters\/grande-ecole-programme-5-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grande \u00c9cole Progra<\/a>m, the course was developed by Julie BAYLE-CORDIER, a professor at I\u00c9SEG and Doctor in Strategic Management. She is also certified in mindfulness meditation with the MBSR <em>(Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction<\/em>) program at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brown University<\/a> in the United States.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BAYLE-CORDIER collaborated with the Academic Director of the Grande \u00c9cole Program and the Academic Affairs Department to address a need expressed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/programs\/specialized-masters\/grande-ecole-programme-5-years\/bachelor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bachelor cycle<\/a> students. \u201c<em>Studies speak for themselves&#8230; since the COVID crisis, anxiety and stress among young people have been on the rise worldwide. We wanted to develop a course to help our students better manage their stress and find a better work-life balance,<\/em>&#8221; explains Julie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-ieseg-orange-color has-text-color\">A course inspired by best practices<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing on her experience and research, Julie BAYLE-CORDIER drew inspiration from the latest scientific research on happiness, stress reduction, and mindfulness meditation for young adults. This new course <strong>integrates multiple mindfulness meditation techniques, as well as the latest academic research <\/strong>(including that of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harvard.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harvard<\/a> professor Tal Ben-Shahar) to offer an integrative approach that combines mind and body, allowing students to better balance their lives in all dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cI wanted to provide students with a space where they can not only learn to meditate but also explore essential themes such as stress management, addictions, interpersonal relationships, and the search for meaning in their professional and personal lives.\u201d<\/p><cite>Julie BAYLE-CORDIER, Professor and Doctor in Strategic Management<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This unique program aims to provide students with a comprehensive toolkit to navigate the challenges of student life while fostering lasting and profound happiness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-ieseg-orange-color has-text-color\">A unique and innovative structure<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-612x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-162906\" width=\"251\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-612x1024.jpg 612w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-179x300.jpg 179w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-768x1285.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-918x1536.jpg 918w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-1224x2048.jpg 1224w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-90x150.jpg 90w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3-400x669.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Mindful_3.jpg 1241w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 251px) 100vw, 251px\" \/><figcaption>Be Mindful@IESEG course<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The 16-hour <em>Be Mindful@I\u00c9SEG<\/em> course takes place weekly on both campuses, and is divided into six sessions of 2.5 hours each, spread over two months. Each session occurs in the <em>Wellness Room<\/em> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/life-at-ieseg\/paris-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris campus<\/a> and in a specially designed room on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/life-at-ieseg\/lille-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lille campus<\/a>, where students are encouraged to practice kindness. This course awards 2 ECTS credits, with a short essay required at the end of the semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Workshops cover a different theme during each session<\/strong>, ranging from reconnecting with the body to managing thoughts and emotions, to releasing our automatisms and addictions, and improving interpersonal relationships through compassionate communication. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/news\/deep-time-walk-bib\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A mindful walk in nature<\/a> is also on the program, highlighting the importance of reconnecting with nature to promote a happy life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-ieseg-orange-color has-text-color\">A positive impact on students<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who have taken the course have reported a significant improvement in their stress management and have discovered a new way to interact with their peers. &#8220;<em>This course has given me a deeply enriching and different perspective from anything I&#8217;ve experienced in a traditional academic setting. I realized that, despite our differences, we all have the same issues and questions,&#8221;<\/em> says one student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is now to make this elective available to as many students as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>&#8220;We started with a small experimental group last year, but we hope that this course will develop significantly on both the Paris and Lille campuses, starting in autumn 2024, to give many students the opportunity to find a better work-life balance.
