TNC is annual international event&nbsp;gathering&nbsp;students&nbsp;from all over the world, competing&nbsp;to become&nbsp;world&nbsp;negotiation&nbsp;champions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-ieseg-orange-color has-text-color\">Training the world future greatest negotiators&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This&nbsp;global competition&nbsp;was&nbsp;born&nbsp;twenty years ago&nbsp;out of&nbsp;a simple&nbsp;observation:&nbsp;negotiation is a skill, not an innate talent, not&nbsp;an art reserved for a select few&nbsp;but&nbsp;rather&nbsp;a measurable skill that can be&nbsp;taught,&nbsp;learned&nbsp;and&nbsp;improved&nbsp;through practice<em>.&nbsp;\u201cBack then, we&nbsp;simply&nbsp;thought: if negotiation is a skill then it can be measured.&nbsp;And if it can be&nbsp;measured&nbsp;then&nbsp;it&nbsp;can be compared\u2026&nbsp;so&nbsp;why not make a&nbsp;competition out&nbsp;of&nbsp;it?\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;explains&nbsp;Remi&nbsp;SMOLINSKI,&nbsp;Founder of The Negotiation Center and professor&nbsp;of negotiation at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hhl.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HHL &#8211; Leipzig Graduate School of Management<\/a> \u2014one of I\u00c9SEG&#8217;s international partners in Germany\u2014 about the creation of the event.&nbsp;<em>\u201cWhat&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thenegotiationchallenge.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Negotiation Challenge<\/a> does is&nbsp;motivate people around the world to study negotiation, to practice negotiation, and to become better negotiators, and&nbsp;I believe this&nbsp;is exactly what&nbsp;the&nbsp;world needs&nbsp;today.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From this conviction grew&nbsp;a unique competition, <strong>bringing together&nbsp;dozens of&nbsp;students&nbsp;and judges&nbsp;from&nbsp;all over the world&nbsp;<\/strong>around a shared challenge:&nbsp;negotiating relentlessly over several rounds with the hope of winning the competition.&nbsp;Each year, the event takes place at an institution in a different part of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-188651\" width=\"239\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-112x150.jpg 112w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-400x533.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TNC-2-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 239px) 100vw, 239px\" \/><figcaption>TNC 2026 in Paris<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-ieseg-orange-color has-text-color\">An&nbsp;intercultural laboratory&nbsp;to train and become top negotiators&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Being effective and well-regarded\u2014that&nbsp;is the full complexity and richness of negotiation.&nbsp;Top performers are those who can combine strong substantive outcomes (such as&nbsp;price, salary,&nbsp;commercial deals, dispute results\u2026) with relational quality,&nbsp;meaning they build solid, lasting relationships with their counterparts.&nbsp;<em>\u201cIn&nbsp;short, great negotiators can combine above-average abilities in substantive outcomes with above-average abilities in relational outcomes. That is where we find the true greatest&nbsp;<\/em><em>negotiators,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>adds Remi&nbsp;SMOLINSKI.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The competition is open to all backgrounds\u00a0(law, business, international relations, technical studies\u2026)\u00a0<\/strong>reflecting how cross-disciplinary negotiation is in the\u00a0corporate\u00a0world.\u00a0The journey begins online\u00a0with\u00a0three scored rounds used to rank the competing teams.\u00a0Only the top 12\u00a0teams\u00a0advance to the\u00a0Grand\u00a0Final,\u00a0which takes\u00a0place over three rounds\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This edition brought together <strong>participants from every continent, each carrying their own culture, communication style, and approach to negotiation<\/strong>. Students, professors,&nbsp;coaches, and international judges gathered around the same table, making TNC more than a competition: a true intercultural laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-ieseg-orange-color has-text-color\">A team of I\u00c9SEG students in the\u00a0Grand\u00a0Final<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As a&nbsp;historic partner of TNC,&nbsp;I\u00c9SEG mobilized&nbsp;its professors as early as January to prepare participating&nbsp;student&nbsp;teams: mediation exercises, conflict management, intercultural negotiation strategies\u2026 Preparation spans nearly three months, leading up to official registration in February.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frieder LEMPP, professor of International Negotiation and Conflict Management, and co-organizer of the TNC 2026:&nbsp;<em>\u201c<strong>This is a great opportunity for&nbsp;our&nbsp;students&nbsp;and it&#8217;s&nbsp;even a&nbsp;goal for some of&nbsp;them&nbsp;to attend this event at the end of the semester<\/strong>. They can apply in realistic conditions what they\u2019ve learned&nbsp;in negotiation classes. The event&nbsp;creates a very nice&nbsp;atmosphere;&nbsp;everybody is happy&nbsp;and excited&nbsp;to participate.&nbsp;It&nbsp;also&nbsp;fosters&nbsp;connections between people and most importantly between students and professionals.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This competition is a\u00a0strong pedagogical commitment, driven by dedicated faculty\u00a0and rewarded by<strong>\u00a0a\u00a0team\u00a0of three I\u00c9SEG students successfully\u00a0reaching\u00a0the\u00a0Grand Final in Paris<\/strong>.\u00a0<em>\u201cStudent participation is on a voluntary basis.\u00a0Once we knew we were sending teams to\u00a0TNC, we prepared a group of professors teaching in the Negotiation\u00a0&amp; Sales\u00a0major\u00a0to provide some extra content and exercises to help students prepare for the competition. We are very happy to have\u00a0this\u00a0incredible\u00a0pool of professors\u00a0at I\u00c9SEG\u00a0who were there to help them. They\u00a0saw students almost every week and mentored them before the competition started,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>explains Adrian BARRAGAN DIAZ, professor of Negotiation and Head of the International Negotiation and Sales major<em>.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>\u201cWe\u2019re used to practicing negotiation in class, but here it\u2019s quite different because it\u2019s a large international competition. The context is serious and we have a real stake: to win. Here, we negotiate with people from many different countries\u2014we\u2019ve negotiated with Indians, Germans, <em>Polish<\/em><\/em> <em>and Dutch participants. For us, it\u2019s a real opportunity to develop our skills in a realistic setting.
