{"id":30572,"date":"2015-04-20T11:47:07","date_gmt":"2015-04-20T09:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/?post_type=news&#038;p=30572"},"modified":"2015-06-28T13:27:06","modified_gmt":"2015-06-28T11:27:06","slug":"intercultural-skills-and-exchange-at-ieseg","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/news\/intercultural-skills-and-exchange-at-ieseg\/","title":{"rendered":"Intercultural skills at I\u00c9SEG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With staff and students from over 70 countries, I\u00c9SEG is committed to highlighting the importance of cultural diversity and to increasing the proficiency of our students in working across cultural boundaries.<\/p>\n<p>The School has already put in place a wide range of\u00a0 cultural, social and language-related activities to help ensure the\u00a0 successful integration of international students and to enable French students to benefit from the rich cultural diversity of the 1,300 international students on the campuses in Lille\u00a0 and Paris.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-30646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/news-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"students at I\u00c9SEG (copyright B.Grossman)\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/news-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/news-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/news-80x52.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/news.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>To ensure that students benefit from this diversity and are well prepared to work in an increasingly international business environment, the School has also introduced a number of specific elements into the curriculum of a number of programs (and which complement the\u00a0different\u00a0opportunities students already have\u00a0across all programs to gain international\u00a0study abroad\/professional experience)\u00a0. For example, students in the bachelor cycle of the Grande \u00c9cole program (3 years) follow courses on cultural diversity and intercultural communication\/management in their first year, as part of a \u2018Cultural Diversity Passport\u2019 they will be asked to complete during their studies.<\/p>\n<p>During the Master cycle of the Grande \u00c9cole program, students will also have the opportunity to take a number of relevant electives including the &#8220;international manager in vivo&#8221; course, and to work towards a \u2018Cultural Diversity Certificate\u2019 (if they complete the relevant electives and a related dissertation\/thesis or work experience, and a personalized intercultural development plan).<\/p>\n<p>International students coming to I\u00c9SEG also have the possibility to use the &#8220;diversity icebreaker&#8221; a tool created by a Norwegian psychologist, which can be used to help intercultural communication and team development. They can also benefit from a wide range other social, cultural and language based activities such as those developed and led by the School&#8217;s\u00a0language department and coordinated by Carmen Campillo. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PASO DOBLE<\/strong> project, created for French beginners in Spanish and Spanish-speaking students who want to learn French. Students work together in pairs in order to help them progress in French and Spanish and raise awareness of their respective cultures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>TANDEM<\/strong> : Again with the view to improving the use of language, the TANDEM project proposes regular meetings between the French and exchange students. The students have to meet several times during the semester at their convenience to spend time together\u00a0to practice speaking and learning about each other\u2019s culture.<\/li>\n<li>LES <strong>\u00ab JEUDIS DU MONDE \u00bb <\/strong>(literally \u00ab The Thursdays of the World \u00bb). For\u00a0 one day, international students become ambassadors of their country with a stand on the school premises where they present their cuisine, history, cultures, traditions \u2026French students participate in each group.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DRAMA and DANCE<\/strong>: I\u00c9SEG proposes sessions to create sketches and to perform in short theatre plays with the foreign students. Students can act out a play using the languages learned at the School whilst the exchange students can do it in French. It also gives students the opportunity to present traditional dances from their countries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00ab GAMES EVENINGS \u00bb<\/strong> :Game nights are held at the school several times during the year. The aim is to invite French and exchange students to spend a pleasnt evening together whilst playing games from different countries.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>\u00ab WORLD CUISINE \u00bb EVENINGS<\/strong> : These \u00ab gastronomic moments \u00bb are an opportunity for our international students to make the specialties from their countries known to everyone at I\u00c9SEG.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00ab LE PETIT JOURNAL \u00bb<\/strong> :The school offers students the possibility of trying their hand at producing a newspaper with illustrated articles and written in different languages. It is published on a Facebook page called \u00ab I\u00c9SEG \u2013 Le Petit Journal \u00bb which allows students to like, comment and share.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The goal of such social and cultural activities is not only to improve the integration of foreign students at the school but also to open the world up to French students.
