Obvious<\/em><\/a> is a collective made up of artists and researchers, created in 2017 by I\u00c9SEG student Gauthier Vernier and his two co-founders Hugo Caselles-Dupr\u00e9 and Pierre Fautrel, that is using artificial intelligence for creating and recommending art. They have been working on a project that uses Machine-learning algorithms to generate images.<\/p>\n

Next month (October), the internationally renowned auction house Christie\u2019s will auction one of Obvious<\/em>\u2019 works of art, entitled the Portrait of Edmond Belamy,<\/em> created by using this type of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

Christie\u2019s notes that the work of art was created by an \u201calgorithm defined by that algebraic formula with its many parentheses\u201d. \u201cAnd when it goes under the hammer in the Prints & Multiples<\/em> sale at Christie\u2019s on 23-25 October, Portrait of Edmond Belamy<\/em> will signal the arrival of AI art on the world auction stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
