{"id":78522,"date":"2019-03-01T09:19:33","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T08:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/?post_type=news&#038;p=78522\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T12:03:25","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T10:03:25","slug":"first-ieseg-data-science-fest-2019","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/news\/first-ieseg-data-science-fest-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"A look back at the first I\u00c9SEG Data Science Fest 2019!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-78528 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Data Fest\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest.jpg 1620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>This week, I\u00c9SEG School of Management organized its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/en\/events\/iesegdatasciencefest-2019\/\">first \u201cDataScienceFest\u201d<\/a>, an event designed to bring together companies, students and other stakeholders with a passion or interest for big data, data science, analytics and machine learning.<\/p>\n<p>After a very short introduction to data science initiatives at the School, including the I\u00c9SEG Msc in Big Data Analytics for Business and its research (including chairs and center of excellence) the floor was given to Dr. Geert Verstraeten (Managing Partner &amp; Data Science Lead at Python Predictions).<\/p>\n<p>He gave the audience of around 40 people a keynote presentation on Artificial Intelligence and whether &#8220;an AI crisis was unavoidable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Looking to the future, it was noted that it would be important to make sure there was a bridge between data science and business management in order to capture the full potential of data science.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-78533 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Data Fest 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-2-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ieseg.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Data-Fest-2.jpg 1620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Arno De Caigny, Researcher at the I\u00c9SEG Center for Marketing Analytics &amp; Data Scientist at Cr\u00e9dit Agricole, then presented a short case study on \u201cdeep learning\u201d, a subfield of machine learning.
