Speaker: Peter TANKOV – ENSAE Paris

abstract

In this talk, I will review the theoretical and empirical dimensions of green investing in financial markets, focusing on two key aspects of green investors’ impact: financial impact and environmental impact. The
financial impact of green investing refers to its effect on asset prices and portfolio returns. I will discuss the differences in returns between green and brown assets caused by the participation of green investors, with a particular focus on both on bonds and stocks. The environmental impact of green investing relates to the improvement in companies’ environmental performance, driven by green investors.
I will discuss the practice of impact investing, that is, investing with the intention of generating a positive and measurable environmental impact alongside financial returns. This discussion will include methods and frameworks for measuring the environmental impact of investments and impact channels, tools and strategies used by impact investors to achieve their goals.
