Master in Fashion Management, 2024

Collection Merchandiser Hardsided, Louis Vuitton

Hong Kong, China

I am a Collection Merchandiser for Hardsided at Louis Vuitton in Paris. I work on collection strategy for different product categories, while coordinating developments with design and industrial teams. I also create training tools to bring the brand’s craftsmanship and storytelling to life, while working closely with communication, VM, events, e-merchandising, and other teams.

What I particularly appreciated about the Master in Fashion Management was its fast-paced and practical approach close to the real working environment. We worked in teams to complete a project in just a few days, and then moved on to something completely different. The professors also come from major houses like Dior and Vuitton, so we get a very practical perspective, not just theory, and the collaboration with Istituto Marangoni was another real asset, combining IÉSEG’s business expertise with a strong fashion and product perspective.

Fashion History was one of my favorite courses because it gave me a much deeper understanding of the history of fashion and the Parisian fashion ecosystem. This knowledge is useful in my work, particularly for the storytelling inspiration part.

I also loved the perfume project, which was a truly 360-degree experience. We developed a perfume concept for a specific brand from scratch: creating a seductive name, choosing the fragrance notes, and developing the concept and inspiration. We also looked at the business side, such as costs, margins, pricing, and benchmarking against other brands.

The program also taught me a lot about teamwork and helped me identify my strengths. Working on short, intensive projects with different teams taught me how to contribute where I could add the most value. The international student community was another highlight, and I have maintained strong friendships with many of my classmates.

My number one advice to students considering the Master: learn French and make sure you have a genuine passion for fashion. Paris is highly competitive, and speaking French can make a real difference when looking for opportunities in the industry. Most importantly, you need to be genuinely curious about fashion and its products.
