Contributing to the development of responsible, innovative and enlightened organizations
A growing number of organizations increasingly support and conduct social and environmental programs, develop ethical codes of conduct and charters, work in partnerships with non-governmental organizations, public partners and regional, national or international federations, collaborate within networks, and endeavour to (re)position responsibility- and sustainability-related values and ethical considerations at the heart of their business models and/or within their organizational strategy and culture. Through such initiatives, organizations aim at better fulfilling their responsibilities and accountability to society.
In this context, IÉSEG aims to be a source of inspiration and a proactive player in the development of a responsible and sustainable economic and social environment. IESEG aims at constructively playing its role as a catalyst for the progress of sound business communities, as a forum for debate, and as a source of diffusion of creative knowledge and solutions. To meet this ambition, the IÉSEG Center for Organizational Responsibility (ICOR) was founded in January 2014. The two central missions of this integrated, cross- departmental academic center are to constitute a coordination center for all initiatives around social responsibility and sustainability currently developed by and within the School (including the School’s commitment to international and national schemes, such as the UN Global Compact, the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative, The UN Principles for Responsible Management Education and the national campaign Campus Responsables) and to represent a constructive platform for the proposal and development of refined actions and innovative initiatives linked to social responsibility and sustainability ideas at the School level, in collaboration with its stakeholders.
Objectives of ICOR
ICOR aims to advance state-of-the-art pedagogy, develop sound academic research in the broad field of business and society relationships, bridge academic research with business practices and reality, contribute to the progress of communities with whom the school interacts, and inspire the continuous development of socially responsible and sustainable organisational practices at the School level.
ICOR structure
ICOR’s activities are organized around 4 main interrelated pillars:
Research:
A research agenda focusing on the analysis of organizational practices in the field of business and society relationships which aims at developing, testing and refining practically-relevant theory to enhance our understanding of important ethical, social, and environmental questions and their relation to business practices.
Learning and education:
About 30 courses on business and society relationships, corporate social responsibility, sustainable value creation and related topics offered to IÉSEG students in the various programs offered by the School, in addition to the continuous process of integrating ethics, social responsibility and sustainability ideas in a transversal manner across courses of all programs.
A ‘certificate in business ethics and sustainable organization’, a trans-disciplinary programme emphasizing how ethics, social responsibility and sustainability management relates to all areas of management, and across disciplines and functional levels.
Service to society and stakeholder relationships:
The development and deepening of interactions and engagement with the School’s stakeholders in order to further contribute to meet expectations linked to the societal role of the School as a higher education institution and to foster the development of enlightened business organizations and the creation of sustainable value in the environment in which it operates.
Operations:
The continuous integration of social responsibility- and sustainability-related ideas into the School’s decision-making processes and daily organizational life. The Centre and its members inspire and encourage continuous improvement at the organizational level by suggesting ideas and proposing the adoption of innovative practices aimed at further embedding social responsibility- and sustainability-oriented thinking in into the School’s culture, strategy and operational processes.
